Yes! Yellow Heat Burner handles nearly all types of waste oils easily and cleanly. No filtering required. We promote used vegetable oil because it is safer for the environment and has fewer legal restrictions.

Many jurisdictions require a permit for any new oil burning equipment installation. Check with your local inspector if in doubt. There is usually no restrictions on the use of vegetable oil, and state and federal permits are often not required. Permits may be required for used motor oil burning.

Since the Yellow Heat Burner is a standard 4" diameter fire tube, it can often be installed in existing furnaces or boilers. Some considerations:

1. The oil pumped to be burner has a return stream, which requires about 40" burner height for a gravity return or a second pump to get the oil back to the fuel storage tank.
2. The flame from a vegetable oil fuel tends to be larger than from a petroleum oil fuel. Sometimes the firebox is too small to accomodate the larger flame.
3. It is recommended to have a window to observe the flame size and color for proper burner tuning.

The short answer is no. There are limitations that could invalidate your homeowner's insurance policy. Also, Yellow Heat Furnace is 88" tall, which will not fit in many basements safely. Yellow Heat is intended for greenhouses, shops and other commercial spaces.

Yes! Even if the vegetable oil is starting to congeal from the cold, Yellow Heat can bootstrap the unit into full operation on used vegetable oil within minutes. We start the unit on a more combustible fuel, such as used motor oil or home heating oil, and then switch to the vegetable oil when the unit is heated.
